Can Picafort is a typical holiday resort that stretches approximately 2 miles alongside wide sandy beaches where you can have some space of your own. There is the familiar range (abundance) of holiday attractions and a wide variety of friendly bars and restaurants. However, there is a local secret bypassed by the vast majority of holidaymakers .... immediately behind the coastal road between Can Picafort and Puerto d'Alcudia you can find Albufera. Surpringly this is an area of wetland: although it may not look special from the road, it is easy to become entranced by the birds that live there permanently or use it as a staging post. There are special hides for viewing and a good visitor centre
Even though it is a bustling holiday resort with all the entertainment the holidaymaker requires, Can Picafort is
also a small Spanish town with a large permenant population, of various nationalities, and maintains that essential "something"that sets it apart from the typical holiday resort. The main fiesta is in August , a week long celebration which culminates in a spectacular display of music and fireworks, the like of which is rarely seen. Can Picafort also boasts a Neolithic site along the beach in an eastward direction.Truely it has something for everyone.
Can Picafort beach stretches the full length of the resort then continues to Alcudia and beyond. From the most northerly point of the resort there is a pedestrianised walkway and bicycle path which runs along the side of the beach as far as the very helpful Can Picafort tourist information office in the main town. Can Picafort is very popular with German tourists and certain restaurants do not provide a menu in English, preferring to aim for a different clientele. Other bars and restaurants are clearly aimed at solely the British, and there are many British owned bars in the area.
