The opportunity to enjoy walks around Deia are many and varied. A 30 minute stroll, through the olive and lemon groves, brings you to Cala Deia, the sheltered little cove and beach where fishermen still go out at dawn to cast their nets. The Cala can also be reached by car, but the walk is delightful, just allow more time for the return journey up hill! As you approach Deia by road from Palma and you round the headland at Sa Pedrissa you are immediately impressed by the beautiful terraced hill sides, which date back to Moorish times and the cancient hurch which overlooks the village. It is even more impressive to approach Deia at night, as the church is flood lit and the lights twinkle as you approach.
There are quality restaurants in Deia including El Olivo, Josef's and Sebastian's and an excellent tapas bar, Xelini's, all within a short walk of the apartment. The 5 star hotel La Residencia with it's spa and Michellin star restaurant is 2 minutes walk from the apartment. The beach at Cala Deia is a leisurely 20 minute walk through olive groves. In summer months, there is a bus service from Deia village to the Cala. Cala Deia has an excellent seafood restaurant and a beach bar. For those who prefer to drive it is 5 minutes away. The local shop sells freshly baked bread, ensaimadas and a wide variety of provisions. There is a paper shop, a few bars, pharmacy, book shop, pottery and art gallery. The local bus service is excellent.. Palma airport is a 30 mins drive from Deia. Car hire is recommended as there are so many nice places to visits locally but taxis are available outside the airport.
Deia offers many attractions, such as excursions on foot that can be carried out in the municipality, through the traditional terraces of olivegroves or the narrow cobblestone streets of the old centre of the town. The most popular and recommendable for all public are those that lead from Deia to the Cala (cove), the one that joins the Cala to Llucalcari, the one that connects Deia with Soller and the Cami des Raco, that starts at Es Llavador in the village and goes up via old stone steps following the course of one of the abundant streams of the area.
