Holidays to Majorca, Spain - (Mallorca)

With the easy living and Mediterranean climate, a holiday in the Balearics is perfect for a wide range of tourists – families, couples, groups of friends – not least because of the abundance of cheap travel and accommodation. With three islands to choose from, you might be unsure which Balearic Island you want to holiday on. Menorca and Ibiza both have their charms but here, we’re going to take a closer look at the island of Majorca…

Renowned for its vibrant nightlife, Majorca has lots of popular areas offering bars, restaurants and clubs. Especially busy during the summer months, it’s worth trying to book early – Thomas Cook is a good resource for well-run, low-budget holidays to Majorca. Book a cheap flight to Palma and explore the sandstone alleyways of the Mallorcan capital, then unwind under orange tree boughs in a remote mountain village. Or head straight for the coast and sizzle in the sun in one of Mallorca’s energetic resorts. Ryanair’s low cost flights to Ibiza and to Majorca Palma Airport land 8km from central Palma, on the south coast of the Balearic holiday island of Mallorca. A 20-minute drive after your direct Palma flight you can be kick-starting your tan on the sand at Palmanova

A perennial favourite with British holidaymakers, Magaluf is warm and buzzing with life – much of it with familiar British accents. Located to the west of Palma, Magaluf is like a home from home for UK holidaymakers, and ideal for a family holiday. But for something a bit more interesting and varied, Palma is where it’s at.

Palma itself is a charming place, full of things to discover and make your own. The historical town centre, Casco Antiquo, is all narrow lanes and quaint pubs. Particularly renowned for an abundance of restaurants, any night out in Palma should start with a hearty meal in this district.

Moving along to Pasea Maritimo, music lovers will delight in the number of jazz and blues venues. For the younger clubbing crowd, Zona Darsena Can Barbera is ideal for a post-cocktail dance. If you want to get some sleep at night, it’s best to stay well away from here! Playa de Palma and El Arenal are the famous, wide beaches situated just east of Palma. One of the most densely populated, lively parts of Majorca, there are plenty of clubs, eateries and bars on these fabulous beaches.

As we’ve seen, nightlife is firmly entrenched into the local lifestyle. Bear this in mind when coming to Majorca. If you’re looking for a quiet family holiday, the quieter Menorca might be more your pace (again, Thomas Cook are a good option for holidays to Menorca). But if its fun, excitement, and hangovers on the beach you’re after Majorca is the place to be
